Hot summer months are a perfect time to relax and
entertain outdoors from sunrise to sunset into
the evenings with family and friends, but
mosquitoes may find your backyard inviting too.
Luckily, there are plants that repel
mosquitoes that you can place throughout your
garden to keep these annoying pests away from
your landscape design construction. Here are
5 plants you can grow in your garden to keep
these uninvited mosquitoes away without drenching
your perennial garden design in harmful chemical
sprays.

  • Lemongrass
  • It has a fresh lemony scent that
mosquitoes hate. So lemongrass plant is a
great addition to your landscape design to get
some of its insect-repelling benefits. Lemongrass
    grows well in full sun.
  • Rosemary
  • Rosemary is another great mosquito repellant that
can keep your yard mosquito free. It has a
pleasant scent to people but foul to mosquitoes.
Rosemary can grow in containers and full
sunlight, but may not survive a winter with
    temperatures below 30 degrees.
  • 3. Catnip
  • Catnip (catmint) is from the mint family and it
contains a chemical called nepetalactone, that's
both a feline attractant and an insect
repellent-- mosquitoes hate catnip but cats may
love it. You can crush the leaves and rub it on
your skin to keep mosquitoes away from you, but
your cat will love you for it.

4. Mint Mint can be grown in flower beds or in
containers and it grows rapidly. Mint has a clean
refreshing scent that mosquitoes cant stand.
Grow some mint in a centerpiece on your patio
table and enjoy a mosquito-free meal with your
family. 5. Marigolds Marigolds are not only
great attraction to your landscape design, but
they have a distinct smell that naturally repels
mosquitoes. They contain an ingredient called
pyrethrum, which is found in many insect
repellents. Grow marigolds in containers or pots
and place them on custom decks or custom patios
where you spend most of your time outdoors.
