Everyone has a story. Everyone has a past. Its
the meaning you assign that story, and what you
do with it that determines your destiny.
Wouldnt it be great, if in the snap of your
fingers you could rewrite your entire lifes
story? What if you could rewrite it in such a
way that when you play it back, there is a
positive meaning? Further, that at each point
along the story you realize what you have
learned, and how the situation made you stronger
and better equipped to conquer obstacles in your
future.

The problem with the theory above is,How in the
world could anyone do that? How do we take
traumatizing events and use them for our
betterment? The foundation of what we do here at
PTSD Retreats like the Inner North Star
PTSD Retreat Center, in Julian, CA is helping to
make this a reality for everyone who comes here.
The following steps are part of our program to
enable better health, wellness, and
resilency Seek Help at PTSD Healing
Retreat This first step is probably the most
difficult as it takes true courage and strength.
But the reality is, its very hard to have a
different perspective on our life, because its
OUR life. Seeing things from a different vantage
point other than our own, requires a neutral
party to listen and offer up ideas and
viewpoints that we may have never
considered. This is a big reason why I am such a
supporter of mentorship and coaching. Realizing
you cant go it alone, is the first step in
healing.

Dont keep your feelings and emotions bottled up
I think we all know what happens to a soda can
that has been shaken and then popped openit
explodes everywhere. The pressure that has built
up is desperately seeking a release. And the
second theres a crack?look out. People are no
different. The more things stay bottled up, the
higher the likeliness for an eruption. The good
news is, there are many avenues that are
extremely helpful to avoid that situation and
for stress management. These range from
journaling, Yoga Nidra (guided meditation),
Tapping (EFT), and HeartMath (biofeedback), just
to name a few. Each of these are skills learned
while you are here. Everyone has something that
works best for them, the key is to start.

Have a gratitude practice at retreats for
veterans with ptsd
No matter what you have going on in your life
how old you are, where you live, your financial
status, or your physical health, we all have
something that warrants our gratitude. One goal
is to step back and bring awareness to the whole
of your life and realize that everything, and I
mean EVERYTHING, happens for you, not to you.
Once that reality sinks in, it becomes quite
easy to find gratitude in each moment, both in
the good times and the challenging ones as they
are happening.

In the moment, we may not have any idea why
something unexpected is taking place. It is only
when we look back, weare able to see how that
situation played into something bigger for us.
Maybe it got us one step closer to where we
should be, maybe it was to make us stronger, or
maybe it was to prove to ourselves how much we
are actually capable of, in any circumstance.
