Title: Benefits Of An ETFE Roof -Tuflite

1
ETFE has started ruling the world of transparent
materials, which once glass was. There is
no doubt in the fact that glass is the most
clear, most transparent material, but there are
many other disadvantages that are associated with
this material. Its easy ability to crack and
break, and its dangerous shards produced when
the material is worked upon are the main reasons
why glass is not being preferred anymore. And,
this is why other materials like ETFE have
started ruling today. But, it is not only because
glass has its downsides that ETFE is being
preferred ETFE is being admired because of its
own unique characteristics and advantages.
Structural advantages
ETFE is a fluorine-based plastic, a polymer
scientifically known as polyethene-co- tetrafluoro
ethene. Its structure makes it very flexible,
which can help it to cope with large
deformations before breakage. It can be elongated
to 200-300 of its size! Also, it can be pre-
stressed, which means it can accommodate live
loads. It can be subjected to tensile stress.
The outer layer is the most stressed layer, while
the inner layer means the lesser stressed one.
The middle layer takes almost no load, making it
mainly used to create two compartments in the
cushion. Glass panels need to be limited to a
certain length to avoid any kind of mishandling
and breakage, while ETFE can be used as long as
required without any kind of worry as it is such
a flexible material. And, this property is why
ETFE can be used to form any kind of shape like
circular and curved, which glass cannot.

General advantages
ETFE is basically a thermoplastic as it uses the
same manufacturing and processing techniques as
thermoplastics do. These techniques bring the
following benefits to ETFE
  • It is very strong and durable.
  • It undergoes no mechanical or visible aging under
    stress.
  • It is abrasion resistant.
  • It has amazing resistance to solvents and
    chemicals.
  • It has a wide service temperature range from
    -200C to 150C.
  • It is exceptionally resistant against tearing.
  • It has great light transmission in both visible
    and UV ranges.
  • It has B1 class fire resistance.
  • It is 100 recyclable.
  • It is very light in weight.
  • It is available in a wide range of patterns and
    colours.
  • It has more than 20 years of life.
  • It has very low water permeability and
    absorption.
  • It possesses excellent thermal control through
    multi-layer foils.
  • It is virtually self-cleaning with almost
    negligible requirement of maintenance.

The best part about ETFE is that even if it
cracks or damages at some point of time, which
is very rare, it can be easily repaired. There is
no need to replace the entire roof for just a
single defect. It used as an ETFE sheet, the
damage can be repaired by using an ETFE patch
over the damaged area. And, if used as an ETFE
cushion, only the damaged segment of the
cushion needs to be replaced, leaving the rest of
the sheet intact. With all the above mentioned
properties, there should be no reason for you to
not use ETFE. So, when you are in search for
ETFE next, just get in touch with Tuflite
Polymers, one of the most reliable ETFE
suppliers in India, who have partnered with
Vector Foiltec, the master of ETFE, to provide
the Indian subcontinent with the best quality
ETFE foils and cushions.
