2BASICS OF HYDRAULICS
HYDRAULICS Uses principle of the flow and
pressure of fluids to do the work.
PASCALS LAW
Pressure applied on a confined fluid is
transmitted undiminished in all directions and
acts with equal force on equal areas and at right
angles to them.

5NEED OF HYDRAULIC FILTRATION
- Looking at the modern machinery requirements,
hydraulics play a very active crucial role in
machine drives. As the high-precision machinery
uses advanced hydraulic components like axial
pumps proportional valves, maintenance of such
elements is the most vital necessity. - In hydraulics more than 80 of problems are due
to contaminated fluid so it is important to keep
system fluid very clean free of contaminants.

6BASICS of HYDRAULIC FILTRATION
Hydraulic Filtration It is the process of
separation of contamination (unwanted/harmful/fore
ign particles) from the hydraulic oil. Filter is
a component of Hydraulic System incorporated to
maintain fluid cleanliness as per pre-determined
design needs.
Function of Filter It keeps the oil clean by
separating the particulate contaminants, dust and
moisture.
- Types of Hydraulic Filter
- Suction Strainer/Filter
- Return Line Filter
- Pressure-line Filter
- Breather Filter

7HYDRAULIC FILTRATION
Off-line Filtration
- Applications
- Applications where contamination is very high and
in-built system filters are inadequate to
maintain system cleanliness level. - Systems with high volume of oil. e.g. Turbine
Lube System, Steel Mills, Generator Systems.
- Features
- This is independent of the main hydraulic system.
- The filter elements can be replaced without
stopping the main system. - Single offline filtration unit can be used in
multiple systems.

8HYDRAULIC FILTRATION
In-line Filtration
- Tank Top Filters
- To block the system generated contaminants
entering into the reservoir. - Tank top filters are low pressure economical .
- Filters mounted on tank top require less space.
- Pressure Line Filters
- Pressure line filters are used in the hydraulic
system to protect critical components e.g.
proportional valves and servo valves. - These filters are used for the pressure range
from 40 bar to 600 bar.

9HYDRAULIC FILTRATION
- Return Line Filters
- The systems with variable displacement pumps and
hydraulic motors requires return line filters. - These filters prevent the particulate
contamination from entering the oil tank. - The return line filter are low pressure filters.
- Working pressure up to 10 bar.
- Spin on Filters
- Spin on filters are low pressure hydraulic
filters used in return line or as suction line
filters in hydraulic systems. - These filters are convenient to replace as
compare to cartridge type filters. - Working pressure up to 30 bar.
- Air Breathers
- Breathers prevent particulate contamination
present in the air from entering in to the oil
tank. - These are mounted on hydraulic oil tank.
