WHY EVERY PET OWNER SHOULD BE A POOP INSPECTOR

  • Dog poop can tell you a lot about a dogs overall
health, and while it often stinks to high heaven
and is kinda gross, bending down to take a closer
look at what Fido has produced can be beneficial!
  • What should a normal, healthy poop look like?
  • In general terms, a healthy dog poop should be a
little firm, but not too dry, and defecating
shouldnt cause them to strain or struggle.
  • Try to observe your pooches poop from time to
time (if its not possible to do so every day) so
that youll be sure to notice if there are any
changes look for the colour, amount and smell.

3
  • A diet high in fibre might mean that your pet
produces a lot of poop with a strong smell, and
this can also happen with certain dry food diets,
as your dog cant process the nutrients and get
rid of them. Dogs who regularly eat raw foods may
    produce smaller, weaker smelling poops.
  • Any changes that worry you might warrant a trip
    to your local veterinarian.
  • What can black, tarry, green, yellow or red poop
    indicate?
  • A poop that features any of these colours may be
evidence of intestinal or anal bleeding and can
be the result of an injury to the GI tract or
even cancer. This kind of poop requires a
    definite trip to the vets.

4
  • When your dogs poop is soft or loose
  • If youve recently made some changes to your
dogs diet, then this may be the simple result of
those changes, or it may mean that your pet has
eaten something that it shouldnt have. Keep an
eye on soft or loose poop, and if a change in
diet doesnt help to improve it, then again, you
may need to see a vet who will take a sample of
    the stool.
  • A stool that is greasy and gray looking
  • This is often the sign that your dogs diet
contains too much fat, and it might be time to
review what you feed them on.

5
  • Too much fat in their food can lead to
inflammatory conditions such as Pancreatitis, a
    potentially life-threatening condition. Seek help
if your dogs poop remains gray and greasy even
    after a diet change.
  • What does it mean when your dog passes watery
    diarrhoea, and lots of it
  • Problems with your dogs intestine may cause them
to poop frequently and produce a high volume of
diarrhoea each time. The causes of this can be
varied, but if the frequent, high volume
diarrhoea continues, then youll need to consult
    with a qualified veterinarian.

6
  • Soft poop with mucus
  • If your dog passes a soft stool that is coated
with an unusual looking mucus, then it could be
an indication of parasites or a virus being
present. Worms or eggs in a similar stool are a
sure sign that parasites are present in your
pets system, so if you see anything like this,
get your dog to a vet. Regular check-ups with a
vet will also help to prevent such infestations
from taking hold, so dont forget to visit them
at least twice a year to maintain your dogs
    health.
  • If your pet dog produces any kind of poop that
concerns you and the problem persists, its
imperative that you get them to the vets as soon
    as possible.
