What is a Bail Bond?
  • A bail bond is a type of surety bond to make sure
that the defendant will appear for every court
    hearing in the future.
  • A judge sets the bail amount during the bail
    hearing.
  • This bail amount serves as the insurance between
the court and the arrested person.

3
Types of Bail Bonds
  • Following are the most common types of bail
    bonds
  • Cash Bond
  • Surety Bond
  • Personal Bond
  • Property Bond

4
Cash Bond
  • For this type of bond, cash is paid for the whole
    bail amount.
  • The person posting the bail amount can get the
refund after deduction of the administrative
    fees.
  • The cash bond can be confiscated by the court if
the defendant fails to appear for the court
    hearing.

5
Surety Bond
  • Surety bond is also known as bail bond and is
used when the arrested person cannot afford to
pay his entire bail amount. A Bail bondsman is
hired who agree to pay the entire bail amount and
charges a small percentage of the total bail
    amount from the defendant.
  • The bail bondsman will have the responsibility to
make sure that the defendant appear for court
    hearing.

6
Personal Bond
  • This type of bond is only granted to the
defendants who do not pose any danger to the
others and have very low flight risk.
  • The defendant is released at some upfront cost.

7
Property Bond
  • In a property bond, a defendants property may be
used as a bail bond. The value of the property
must be double the bail amount.
  • The property can be forfeited by the court if the
defendant fails to appear for the court hearing.
  • Compared to surety bond, property bond takes time
    even weeks.
