  • This article addresses how to disable write
    protection from a file or removable storage item,
    that will permit you to change the files
    contents. For this, you have to use an admin
    account to do this. Some kinds of removable
    storage like CD-Rs, have built-in write
    protection which cant be removed.

How to Detach Write Protection from a File on
Windows
  • Launch Start by clicking the Windows icon in
    the bottom-left corner of the screen.
  • Launch File Explorer by clicking the
    folder-shaped logo in bottom-left side of the
    Start menu.
  • Visit the Files location by clicking the folder
    wherein the file is positioned on the left side
    of File Explorer Window.
  • Choose the file by clicking on it for which you
    desire to disable write protection.
  • Press the Home menu placed in the upper-left
    corner of the window and toolbar will be shown at
    the top of the window.
  • Press the Properties logo, placed in the Open
    section of the toolbar, for opening the
    Properties window.
  • Monitor the Read-only box, placed at the bottom
    of the Properties window. If there is not this
    button, then make sure that you are on the
    General menu of the Properties window.
  • Press Apply then hit OK, both buttons are
    placed on the bottom of the window, for saving
    your modifications to the file and shutting down
    the Properties window. Now, you are able to
    change your file.

Mac
  • Launch Finder by clicking the blue, face-like
    logo in your Macs Dock, to open a new window.
  • Head over to the files location by clicking the
    folder that contains your file at the left side
    of the Finder window.
  • Choose the file by clicking on that file.
  • Press File, placed in the menu item at the
    upper-left side of the screen then a pull-down
    menu will be shown.
  • Press the Get Info button, placed in the File
    pull-down menu, for opening the chosen files
    Get Info window.
  • If there is a closed lock logo at the
    bottom-right corner of the window, then press it
    to unlock the Get Info menu. Now, access your
    Admin password.
  • Press the Sharing Permissions title, placed
    at the bottom of the window, for expanding
    additional display buttons.
  • Search your username, placed under the Sharing
    Permissions heading, for using it to log into
    your PC.
  • Alter the files permissions by clicking the
    Read Only box, placed at the right of your
    username until it shows Read Write, then turn
    off the Get Info window. Now, you are able to
    change your file.
