Title: Know the Various Types of Fuel Injection System
1KNOW THE VARIOUS TYPES OF FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM
2 The most important component is the fuel
injector which decides how the fuel burns in the
combustion chamber.
3Carburetors were used to pump fuel into the inlet
manifold of the engine and the fuel distribution
was controlled by the amount of pressure applied
to the accelerator pedal.
4Nowadays, almost all cars are equipped with one
of the various techniques through which fuel can
be injected into the engine such as
5Single point injection
Multi-point fuel injection
Sequential fuel injection
Direct injection
6Single-point injection
7The fuel injectors are located in a core housing
and the fuel travels along with the air
throughout the intake manifold on its way to the
cylinders.
8The injectors are much easier to control than the
carburetor as the intake of fuel can be
controlled electronically to make its delivery
more accurate and consistent.
9 This helps to achieve better throttle response
and increased fuel economy.
10Multi-point fuel injection
11In multi-point fuel injection, multiple injectors
are positioned on the intake manifold where the
inlet meets each combustion chamber.
12All individual injectors spray the fuel at the
same time into the cylinders.
13Delivering the fuel vapor so close to the intake
port ensures that there will be no wastage which
helps to achieve better air/fuel ratio.
14Sequential fuel injection
15 The sequential fuel injection has advanced
engine controls which can change the sequence in
which the injectors fire the fuel.
16Sequential fuel injection only starts to spray
the fuel, when the intake valve opens for any
particular cylinder which avoids the wastage of
unused fuel.
17This small improvement proved to be more
significant when it increased both the
performance and efficiency of the car.
18Direct injection
19The direct fuel injection means the injection of
fuel directly into the cylinder at high pressure,
independent of air, which arrives separately via
the intake manifold.
20 A computer controls when the fuel injectors to
open to let fuel into the engine and the fuel
injector is basically a small electric valve.
21 By injecting the fuel close to the cylinder
head, the fuel stays atomized, so it will burn
better when ignited by the spark plug.
