Know the Possible Transmission Fluid Leak Spots in a Car

Description:

The transmission fluid is an important component for the shifting of gears as well as the steering wheel. It is required to regularly check the transmission cooler lines, dipstick tube O-ring, transmission input and output shaft seal in order to avoid fluid leaks. Go through these s to know the possible transmission fluid leak spots in a car. – PowerPoint PPT presentation

Title: Know the Possible Transmission Fluid Leak Spots in a Car

1
Know the Possible Transmission Fluid Leak Spots
in a Car
2
The transmission uses a relatively distinctive
fluid so you can often, be sure youve got a
transmission fluid leak simply from the color and
smell of the fluid.
3
Be careful here as some vehicles use automatic
transmission fluid in the power steering system
so make sure you do not actually have a power
steering leak!
4
The best way to prove youve got a leak in a
system is to regularly check the fluid level and
if is steadily going down, be sure that there is
a leak.
5
Hence, let us know the possible transmission
fluid leak spots in a car.
6
Transmission cooler lines
7
The most common transmission fluid leak location
is from the transmission cooler lines.
8
Every automatic transmission pumps the fluid
through a cooler in the cars radiator to help
warm the fluid when you first start driving.
9
The lines to and from these coolers are simply
rubber hoses that can leak at the connection and
crimp points.
10
Transmission dipstick tube O-ring
11
The dipstick you use to measure the fluid level
in your transmission fits into a tube or
standpipe.
12
That tube has an o-ring where it enters the
transmission and as that o-ring gets old and
dried out it can allow fluid to sneak past it and
leak out.
13
The dipstick tube o-rings often leak
intermittently and more when your car is parked
on a hill or slope.
14
Transmission input shaft seal
15
This is the least common leak point in any
transmission because it is hidden behind inside
the bell-housing where it is safe from dirt, dust
and other things that destroy seals.
16
When your input shaft seal is leaking then you
will see transmission fluid dripping from the
front of your bell-housing.
17
And if you spot a leak, replacing the seal will
require removing your transmission which can be
an expensive repair.
18
Transmission output shaft seal
19
Leaking output shaft seal is a very common leak
point, mostly in a rear wheel drive car.
20
If you have a transmission fluid leak at the
output shaft seal you will see evidence of fluid
leaks where your CV axle exits your transmission.
21
Replacing these seals does not require removing
the transmission so check with a good mechanic
for the desired repair.
