Overview

• Logical Reasoning was included as a separate
  section along with Data Interpretation
• 16 questions including subjective type questions
  were the theme of CAT-17.
• CAT 2017 had a really tough section of LR and
  preparing for all kind of questions did prove to
  be helpful for students.

Logical Reasoning Strategy

1. Solve all the questions in a chapter after
   reading and learning the theory very well. If you
   are not familiar with the theory, then it's not
   alright to begin questions. Learn all the
   concepts, shortcuts etc.
2. Mark the questions you find genuinely difficult
   or those which require thinking not usual to
   other questions in the chapter.
3. Don't solve more than 1 chapter in a day. This is
   the time required to absorb all the concepts. In
   fact, each chapter requires 2-3 days for complete
   absorption.
4. Wait for a week and solve the marked questions
   only again. If you are not able to do them, then
   read the theory again and practice the worksheet
   again. Else, move onto next chapter.

Logical Reasoning Strategy

• 1. Regularly practice questions on logical
  reasoning. Usually the ideas to solve different
  logic questions are quite repetitive. So by
  practicing logic section regularly you can get a
  hang of solving the questions.2. Solve
  different types of puzzles. Can look at online
  puzzles from the various puzzle sites or can
  refer to puzzle booked by authors like shakuntala
  Devi, George summers, etc. Solving these puzzles
  help to think laterally. This type of thinking
  helps when the logic questions are quite
  different from the traditional questions.
• 3. Try solving problems that require a number of
  steps to get the answer. This will include rubic
  cubes, sudoku, matrix puzzles. Try to understand
  each step and how does it work. Learn how to do
  it faster.

• 1) Make a wise caselet/question selection-
• If you have solved the previous year CAT papers,
  you must be aware of one fact for sure. The fact
  that there are always few simple questions hidden
  between difficult questions. Look out for these
  questions and solve them first.
• 2) Write down all the given information-
• Try to attempt every LR problem in a methodical
  fashion, and solve step by step, because trying
  to look at all the information at once will
  confuse even the best of us. Hence it is
  important to be very clear with data before you
  get deeper into any caselet and getting your time
  invested in it. The most important step to
  solving an LR problem is to write down all of the
  information given in a box, table or diagram e.g.
  if the problem involves seating arrangements at a
  round table, always draw the table first and then
  try various permutations and combinations of
  people seated around it. Once you have drawn the
  figure for the problem, you are free to think
  with an uncluttered mind.

Study Plan

• Study Plan and resources to prepare for Logical
  Reasoning for CAT-
• Solve 2 LR Caselets per day, for next 5 months
  from now. Once solved, analyze how you solved.
  referring to the available solution. Also, when
  you get a caselet wrong, try to see where did
  your thought process go wrong on the logic of the
  given caselet. Try to avoid this mistake when you
  solve the caselets on the following day.
• Old CAT LR Questions are the best source to
  prepare for Logical Reasoning. However, more than
  solving, analyzing them is more important. As
  mentioned in the aforementioned point as well, do
  not leave questions or caselets unanalyzed and do
  not move from one past paper to the next paper
  without knowing your mistake and how to avoid it
  before solving the next past CAT paper.
