1
Essential UI Design Tips For an Outstanding
E-Commerce Website
2
  • In the web development domain, one can see
constantly changing trends. For a business
website to be successful, it is important to keep
    pace with these trends.
  • Your website makes money for you. What can you do
for it? Well, you can make it enticing. Because
if a website is attractive, it gets more traffic.
More traffic means more leads. And that
    ultimately means more profit.

3
  • Here are some UI design tips to make an
    outstanding e-commerce website
  • Make sure your e-commerce website is
mobile-compatible so that it looks as good on the
mobile screen as it does on the desktop.
    Integrate mobile-friendly features into your
site. Or else, you might lose a large number of
    your mobile visitors.

4
  • Add a human touch to the UI design- Add features
that entice consumers to come in, stay, shop, and
also come back again and again on your online
store. Humanize your brand promotion as much as
possible to build credibility and trust.
  • Use captivating images in order to make an
impression on your visitors so that they are
enticed to shop from your online store. Images
that you use to showcase your products should be
unique, clear, of good quality, and enticing. You
can even add some engaging text or content to
them since that adds value to the images.

5
  • Do not compromise on site speed- Whats the
purpose of having a good UI when the user
experience is spoiled? A slow-loading website
hampers the user experience. Hence, you need to
optimize your website to make sure it loads at a
    lightening fast speed.
  • Product navigation- Good website navigation is
essential for any site, but more so for
e-commerce sites. Categorize and organize your
products properly. Users should be able to browse
among different categories and products quickly
and intuitively. For example Amazon has one of
    the best-designed navigation systems.

6
  • Search box- Have a clear and well-positioned
search box for your e-commerce website as its a
powerful site feature and allows users to find
products or specific items with ease. Keep your
search box in a very prominent position on your
site to encourage the user to search the site for
the product they want. For example, ThinkGeek has
very sensibly placed its search box on top of the
vertical product navigation menu. Being able to
use two site features together ensures a good
    user experience.

7
  • Product images- Since e-commerce websites do not
give users the ability to touch or feel products,
it makes it essential to use and display product
images in an enticing way. Have big enough images
to enable users to see details of the product.
For example, the e-commerce store called Storenvy
arranges thumbnails of other product images
vertically on the right side of the current
product image being viewed, making them highly
visible to users. Masterfully arrange the images
in such a way that it complements your sites
    design.

8
  • Product view filtering/sorting- Give your users
the ability to filter or sort products. This can
greatly enhance their experience. Allow users to
filter products by sub category, price, type,
color, etc, and also sort products
    chronologically, by price, etc.

9
  • Shopping cart- Some common elements of shopping
cart pages include product name, short product
description, products price, total cost of
products in the cart, product image thumbnail,
quantity box, etc. This page should be clear,
functional and as short as possible. For example
On the e-commerce site called Atom Bicycles, when
you hover over the shopping cart icon, instead of
being directed to a shopping cart page, it shows
you a short summary of items in your cart. This
gives convenience to shoppers to quickly see what
they have in their cart without having to wait
for another web page to load.

10
  • Featured products- There are certain products
that every e-commerce store wants to highlight
and theyre mostly found on the front page of the
site i.e the homepage. There are different
methods of putting featured products in an online
store. Have an image slideshow on top of the home
pages layout. You can even get them displayed in
a 3-column thumbnail arrangement below the main
slider on the homepage or display it as the
sites background which is navigable using the
    left and right arrows.
