How to safely space your pregnancy
What is healthy timing and spacing of pregnancies?
  • Healthy timing and spacing of pregnancy (HTSP) is
    the process of family planning that helps mother
    and family to delay, limit or space pregnancies
    to achieve the healthiest outcomes for new-born,
    mother, father and other member of the family.
  • It is very important to plan before one decides
    to give birth to ones young ones. A new
    individual is altogether a new consumer for the
    society, and is dependent on the family. Proper
    planning leads to the well being of mother, child
    and family both physically and economically.
evidence-based recommendations from the World
Health Organization and USAID that
  • Women should delay their first pregnancy until at
    least age 18.
  • There should be wait for at least 24 months
    before taking decision to attempt another
  • After incidences like miscarriage, induced
    abortion, there should ne wait of at least 6
    months before attempting another pregnancy.
The four principle measures were converted to
birth-to-pregnancy intervals as follows
  • Birth-to-birth intervals minus nine months
  • birth-to-pregnancy interval
  • Inter-outcome interval minus nine months

    contraceptive vaginal ring (CVR)

Problems of ill-spacing of pregnancy ( mothers)
  • Labor before the 37th week of labor
  • Other factors that influences the risk are
    drinking, smoking, drug use, consuming
  • low diet with respect to healthy food consumption
  • Affecting health mentally and physically.
  • Some of the problems associated to it are
    Postpartum Depression.
  • Increase in stress level.
  • Healthy mother is the key to healthy family

  • -Less weight of baby while it is born.
  • (baby weighing less than 5lbs. 8oz. (2500 grams)
    at birth)
  • -The problem with less weight of the baby rather
    than standard healthy weight. Some problems might
    occur like mental disabilities, death and poor
    immune system.
  • -Pre-term or pre-mature health (baby born before
    36th week of pregnancy)
  • -Result being organ didnt find sufficient time
    to grow properly.
  • -Some of the problems include- weak immune
    system, infections, hearing loss and even death.
Problems of ill-spacing of pregnancy (father)
  • Physical and Mental Challenges-
  • Physical challenges include extra hard work and
    physical stress that male partners has to undergo
    to incur additional expenses of the baby. As the
    physical stress increases, that further leads to
    the increase of mental stress.
