Surrogacy Process

Gestational surrogacy process is a special
arrangement where a woman carries and gives birth
to a baby on behalf of another couple. The woman
carrying the baby is referred to as the
gestational surrogate. In most cases, the
intended parents are involved throughout the
pregnancy and are present during the birth as
well. After the baby is born, the infant becomes
theirs. In gestational surrogacy process, the
carrier does not have a genetic connection to the
baby. The sperm and egg are both donated and
fertilized (from the intended parents or a donor)
prior to implantation into the gestational
surrogates womb.

Screening Phase After a surrogate is selected
by the intended parents, the screening process
begins. This includes examining the surrogates
medical history for infectious diseases, overall
health, psychological capacity and compatibility.
Both parties (the surrogate and the intended
parents) are requested to sign legal consent
documents regarding pre-conception procedures,
pre and post birth procedures as well as
parentage rights of the intended parents. This is
absolutely necessary as it ensures that both
parties are completely in agreement before
proceeding further. Implantation Phase In this
phase, the surrogate is given medication before
commencing the IVF process.

The medications help to mature multiple eggs so
that the chances of conception can increase. Once
the follicles have matured, the eggs are
retrieved from the ovaries and fertilized in a
laboratory using sperm from the intended father
or a donor. Then the embryos are left in the lab
to develop for up to 5 days. These are then
implanted into the surrogates uterus. Pregnancy
Phase After IVF is successfully concluded, the
pregnancy journey begins. The surrogate will be
expected to comply with the requirements set by
the intended parents that ensure the wellness of
their baby. This will include doctors
appointments, diet restrictions, lifestyle
choices, regimens, etc. The surrogate is
compensated for her time and assistance
accordingly.
