1
Distance measurement using ultrasonic sensor Kit
How it works!!
2
Introduction
  • This kit is designed and developed to detect and
measure the distance of an object in front of
    this device.
  • An ultrasonic sensor is mounted on the front end
    of this kit.
  • If an object is present in front of the sensor,
the waves hit the object and are reflected back
from the object to the receiver port of the
    sensor.
  • Thus, by identifying the wave, the time
difference between the transmission and receipt
of any particular wave is noted. This helps us to
calculate the distance of the object from the
    device

Background
  • These machines as well as robots have the
ability to observe its surroundings in different
forms and communicate the same to a user who
commands them to take related action.
  • One of the basic functions of this smart robot
is to detect objects or obstacles in front of it.
  • An ultrasonic sensor is used to fulfill this
function as they consume less power and can
perform efficiently during the day as well as
    night.
  • It can be used instead of a camera as cameras
will be quite useless during the night.

Continued..
  • The HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Module has 4 pins
    Ground, VCC, Trig and Echo.
  • The sensor produces an ultrasonic sound wave
from TRIG port at a frequency of 40k Hz which
travels through the air and if there is an object
or obstacle in its path, the wave bounces back to
the ECHO port of the module.
  • By obtaining the total travel time and the speed
of the sound, the distance of the object in-range
from the sensor can be calculated.
  • The Echo pin receives the wave signals which are
reflected from the object. The Echo pin notes the
time difference in the emission and receipt of
    sound waves in microseconds.
