moving Well, you just got ready to move from your
one dream house to another. Lets say you have
been preparing for weeks and achieved very
little. All the planning for the perfect packing
failed. Because you were either busy or you have
kept postponing the job. It is not as horrible as
it sounds. Remember, you still have time and
nothing is lost. You can still finish up the
boxing and packing before the movers arrive. You
might have to use your smartphone smartly, to
make calls and get help. Thats why we have
friends for, to help us with our transition. A
Day in the old place First, pack heavy things in
the box. Give instructions to all the
helping hands. Once the boxes are sorted, label
all of them item wise and room wise. For
example- Books - Library Lamp X - Bedroom
Plates - Dining etc. Treat your family and
friends with Pizza or order a Chinese. You dont
want to put the wet kitchen items in the box.
Hence, avoid cooking a day before you move. Use
bubble wraps to pack the delicate items. Keep all
the boxes in one place. Preferably on top of each
other. Make sure there are no damages in the
house. If there are items that you have to give
it away, take a trip to the thrift store or any
charity. They will love you for it. Once the
packing is done, remember to write down and
inform everyone around, which furniture and box
goes first in the van. The entire packing may
take at least half a day but on a positive side,
you will have a good sleep at night knowing you
are ready to move. A Day in the new place On the
previous day, you accomplished the impossible!
You successfully packed your things and the
movers followed your instructions word for word.
Now, you are at your new place. This first day is
very crucial, as you step into the new house.
Before you plan anything, make sure you talk to
your landlord. Give the paperwork. Get the
cleaning done and check if there are any minor
fixes that need your attention. Let the movers
place the boxes in the right rooms as labelled.
As the furniture and boxes are being placed guide
them while they are being placed so that you
dont have to move the heavy items later. Once
all the heavy items and the boxes are in the
respective rooms, you can pay the movers and send
them away.

Relax for a while. You are not done yet. There
are a few more things left to do. Set the kitchen
and the bedroom, first. Rest of the items can be
unpacked slowly but your food and rest cannot be
postponed. The day you arrive will still be a
takeaway day but you might want to send someone
to get your groceries. You dont have to fill the
fridge at once but get the essential food items
for a week. Once you start setting all the
important things, look around your
neighbourhood. Then choose arrange one room at a
time. You may ask your friends to crash in for
the night while they help you settle down in your
new apartment.
