The saree is one of the most recognized forms of
Indian attire. Globally regarded and respected as
an alluring form of dress, the sarees of India
are as unique and captivating as its many
regions. The specialized craft techniques and
cultures of each state within India have
contributed their own patterns, materials,
techniques and designs to saree making. The
result is a gorgeous collection of sarees that
reflect the diversity of Indias heritage and
culture.

1 Rajasthan - The Bandhani Saree
The term bandhani is derived from a Sanskrit
term banda which means to tie. This is a sort
of tie-dye textile that is made by plucking the
material with ones fingernails to create tiny
bindings which results in an abstract design.

2 Maharashtra - Paithani Saree
Considered as one of the finest silk sarees of
India, Paithani sarees are made using fine silk.
This type of saree is characterized by oblique
square borders and a peacock design pallu.

3 Uttar Pradesh - The Banarasi Silk Saree
These are regarded as some of the finest in
India. They display beautiful silver and gold
zari work with opulent embroidery using fine silk.

4 Bihar - Bhagalpuri Silk Saree
Bhagalpuri silk is also referred to Tussar silk.
This type of saree is made from special silk that
is found in the town of Bhagalpur in Bihar. The
name refers to how the saree is dyed.

5 Tamil Nadu - Kanjeevaram Saree
This special saree is made from pure mulberry
silk. Its borders are defined by stripes, checks,
floral patterns and temple motifs. Genuine
Kanjeevaram Silk Sarees are made from weaving the
border and body separately and then interlocking
them together.

6 Gujarat - Patola Silk
The Patola saree is made using a special dyeing
technique called double ikat. It is a special
technique where the warp and weft of the fabric
are resist dyed prior to weaving. A single patola
saree can take up to six months to make a single
saree because each strand is dyed separately
prior to weaving.

7 Madhya Pradesh - Chanderi Silk
The Chanderi silk fabric is made by weaving
together cotton yarn with silk and zari. This
results in a shimmery texture. Chanderi silk was
once considered the fabric of royalty due to its
intricate designs.
