Knowing how to tell if you have been hacked
sooner, rather than later can help stop potential
data loss and avoid identity theft. Some telltale
signs you might notice could include

1. Strange emails, text messages, or social
mediaIf you start to see posts on Facebook that
you did not put up, or responses to text messages
or emails you did not send, chances are you have
been hacked. In most cases, this type of attack
involves sending a virus or malware to your
contracts on whatever app it has infected.

2. Changes to your desktop, toolbars, or shortcut
icons. If you notice your desktop background has
changed, there are extra toolbars or new buttons
on toolbars, or changes to the shortcuts on your
desktop, chances are you have been hacked.
Hackers often deliver malware to your devices via
toolbars that then can alter other settings on
your computer.

3. Password protected accounts are locked out or
passwords no longer work.If you know you are
entering the password correctly, chances are a
hacker has attempted to access your account and
locked your account. Now you have to reset your
password and if they have mirroring malware on
your computer, it will send them your new
password once you unlock your account and reset
it.

TIP If you notice passwords problems on one
device, try accessing your account on another
device. If you can log in with your current
password, then you know youve been hacked.

4.Your mouse starts moving on its own. This is
quite a scary thought, but certain types of
malware do allow a hacker to remotely connect to
your device and take control. In some cases, they
could also deliver ransomware onto your device
and essentially lock you out until you pay the
ransom.

5. Unexpected website redirects to sites you
normally do not visit. If you enter a web
address or do a search and it takes you to a
strange website, chances are you have malware on
your device. Hackers will redirect people through
paid ads that they can profit from, as well as
ads that can run up the costs for a business and
hurt that business directly.

With the number of new attacks steadily
increasing, you can bet the upcoming holiday
season is going to be prone to at least a few
cyber attacks at major retailers, as well as
private individuals. Since you can never truly be
100 secure these days, it is always a good idea
to have a decent backup of all of your important
files and data. Plus, it does not hurt to have a
backup of your backup.
