2NOTE This article references the Account Copy
File Transfer. Please be advised that this
feature is only available in US and Canadian
versions of QuickBooks Desktop.
- The following error may occur when examining to
explore the company file from the location
catalog in the No Company Open window - Warning The company file you selected could not
be found. You can try one of the following - Choose the 'Open or Restore Company command
from the 'File menu to look for the file in a
different directory. (or) - Use the 'Search' tool from the Windows 'Start
Menu' to search for this file on your computer.
3This normally happens if your computer is
disconnected from the path where the QuickBooks
file is located or your QuickBooks file has been
deleted from your computer.
- If you are accessing your QuickBooks file over
the network - Solution 1 Ensure you are connected to the
network - Ping your server computer
- By doing this, you are checking if your computer
is connected to your network. Use this to be sure
you can see other computers on the network. Best
used on a client workstation to ensure it can
access the server. - Identify the name of your server computer.
- On your keyboard, press the Windows logoR. The
Run dialog box opens. - Enter CMD then click OK. The Command Prompt
window opens. - Enter Ipconfig /all then press Enter.
- Take note of the Host Name (e.g. server name),
that is the name of your server computer.
42. In The Command Prompt, Enter "Ping", "Name Of
Your Server" Then Press "Enter".
3. You Should See A Reply To Each Packet.
a. If You See a Reply For Each Packet, It
Means Your Computer Is Connected To Your Network.
b. If You sees a Packet Loss Or a Slow
Reply, Your Network Should be Diagnosed by a
Qualified IT professional.
- If you are connected to your network and still
getting the same issue, please proceed to
solution 2.
5Solution 2 Search for all company files
Go to your server computer and perform a wildcard
search for all company files by typing one of the
following into the search bar.
- Note Be sure to include the Asterisk () before
the extension type to ensure the search works
correctly. Search for .qb to find any/all of the
following file types - .qbw (Working Files)
- .qbb (BackUp Files)
- .qba (Accountant Copy Files)
- .qbx (Accountants Transfer Files)
- .qby (Accountants Change Files)
- Once the file is found, make a note of the file's
Location and proceed with to solution 3. If the
file is not found, contact an IT professional to
help to locate the file.
6- Solution 3 Open your file in QuickBooks
- Open the file in QuickBooks depending on the type
of your QuickBooks file. - Opening a company file (.qbw) or an accountant's
copy (.qba) - From the File menu, select Open or Restore
Company. - Select Open a Company File.
- Click Next.
- Select the Company file, or browse to the folder
containing the Company File. - Click Open.
- Restoring a Backup (.qbb)
- From the File menu, select Open or Restore
Company. - Select Restore a Backup File.
- Click Next.
- Select a Local backup.
- Select the Company File, or browse to a folder
containing the company file. - Click Next.
7- Browse to the location where you wish to save the
restored file (where you will be working with the
file). - Click Save.
- Restore an Account Copy Transfer file (.qbx)
- From the File menu, select Open or Restore a
company. - Click Convert and Accountant's Copy Transfer
File. - Click Next.
- If the What the Accountant's Copy Can and Can't
Do window is displayed, click Next. - Select the transfer file (.qbx), or browse to the
folder containing the transfer file. - Click Open.
- Browse to the location where you wish to save the
Accountant's Copy File. - Click Save.
8If you are accessing your QuickBooks file saved
locally on the same computer.
