HOW TO KNOW IF YOU HAVE CAREGIVER ANXIETY?
2
Summary
  • Those who care for dementia patients or their
loved ones with Alzheimers disease, stress
becomes a common hitch for them which can further
give rise to caregiver stress. Keeping track of
stress levels is of utmost importance for
    caregivers.
  • For a better quality check, have your loved one
answer the questions for you to see what people
close to you think. If your YES answers outnumber
the NO answers then its time to take some
important steps to reduce your stress level.

3
A Short Fuse
  • Do you lose your temper quickly? Do you feel
angry with your parents? Do you feel irritated
towards your family members or loved ones? One of
the recognizable signs of caregiver stress is
losing their cool easily. Frustration increases
when obstacles come up whether they are big or
    small.

4
Sleep Problems
  • Do you have trouble sleeping? Do you wake up
tired? Do you have a problem staying asleep?
Full-time care giving can require plenty of
physical effort but if your parent has trouble
sleeping then your chances of rest after a tiring
work day are reduced. Trouble getting to sleep
can be caused by stress and depression.

5
Emotional Outbreaks
  • Do you start crying all of a sudden?
Experience feelings of despair? Do you have mood
swings? Its normal to feel a variety of emotions
about having to parent your own parent. However,
if you are feeling emotionally delicate then
there might be something more going.

6
Significant Weight Change
  • Have you lost a lot of weight? Or have you
gained weight? For some people, stress can result
in weight loss or weight gain from emotionally
triggered eating or frequent snacking. Changes in
sleeping and eating habits can lead to depression.

7
Energy Levels
  • Is it difficult for you to stay motivated to
complete tasks? Is it hard to focus when you
carry out mental tasks? Do you feel bored more
often? If you feel OFF it can become almost
impossible to perform tasks effectually. Setting
up a routine could help you and your parents to
get through the daily tasks more easily however
it can leave you feeling stuck in a boring rut.

8
Social Isolation
  • Can you remember the last time you had an
entire day to yourself? Do you feel like nobody
understands you? Do you feel like your family
members dont care? Have you dropped out of
activities to care for your parent? You might
feel you lack time for your own pursuits plus
your parents changes in behavior may make you
    feel embarrassed. Unfortunately, social isolation
also leads to stress. Make sure to take time to
    interact with others.
