Water Sports in Canary Islands Beaches
2
The beaches in Lanzarote range from pure white or
golden fine to pitch black volcanic sand. Aside
from perfect spots to unwind and relax, its rich
turquoise waters and exciting waves offer endless
choices for water sports.
With the waters frequented by Atlantic waves,
windsurfing schools are conveniently located in
Costa Teguise, Playa Blanca, Tias and La Santa.
For those with a penchant for sailing, flock at
Marina Rubicon at Playa Blanca, and at Arrecife.
Thrill seekers who love paragliding, windsurfing,
and kite surfing could head to the shores of
Famara Beach.

Snorkeling
Playa La Garita in Arrieta, Playa Chica in Puerto
del Carmen, Playa Flamingo in Playa Blanca and
the rock pools in Punta Mujeres are great spots
to enjoy snorkelling as its best. If you are
lucky, you will be able to see sama, rainbow
fish, various bream, zebra fish, parrot fish,
barracudas, small crabs, harmless Angel Sharks
and hopefully some sea horses, usually living on
the ropes of tied up boats.
4
Scuba Diving
Lanzarote is well renowned as a fabulous place
for divers, with warm waters, amazing visibility
and a fantastic selection of sea life from sea
horses to angel sharks, and with lots in between.
5
Diving
Lanzarote is one of the few places in the world
where you can dive 30m on a yellow
submarine. Submarine Safaris dives several times
a day from the luxury marina of Puerto Calero,
where you can discover shipwrecks and sea life
without getting wet and all helpfully identified
by the expert on board guides.
6
Surfing
Top surf sports are found all around Lanzarote,
nicknamed as the Hawaii of Europe, and whether
you are an experienced surfer or a beginner you
can find your dream spot here. Prime season is
winter, from November to late March, as waves
commonly reach heights ranging from 1.5-4.5m and
hardly drop below head-high.
7
Kayaking
Lanzarote has a choice of kayaking activities
ranging from taking a surf kayak out from the
beach or organised tours of the coast in enclosed
kayaks. A lovely way to discover the hidden
beaches of Lanzarote. Kayaking is great fun and
doesnt require big technical skills, you can
master the basics of using a kayak in about five
minutes. Kayaks can be hired in Arrieta, Playa
Blanca and La Graciosa.
8
Jet Ski
There is jet ski hire available in the resorts of
Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca for those who
like to experience the feeling of speed on the
water.
9
Kite Surfing
Kite surfing is allowed on a couple of designated
beaches in Lanzarote, the main one is Playa de
Famara where lessons are available.
10
Windsurfing
Costa Teguise is famous for windsurfing and Playa
Las Cucharas is the beach to head for. This
resort is slightly windier than the others and
the sea is dotted with colourful sails in the
afternoons. There are plenty of schools to choose
from. The European Freestyle Pro Tour event is
held here each June, where some of the best
riders in the world compete for the yearly
Freestyle European title.
11
Sailing
Lanzarote is the last stop before crossing the
Atlantic and a popular place for sailing. There
are yachts available for private hire with crew.
