Lets Know the Evolution of Samosa in India with
FoodPanache
Monsoon has just started and no one would want to
miss out the aroma of freshly cooked fried food.
And when it is Samosa, you cannot stop yourself
while enjoying it during the showers of rain.
Just imagine that you are seeing the drizzling
across the window pane, all cuddled up in your
blanket and eating your favourite snack. A
steaming hot cup of chai in your hands and a
whiff of freshly made garama garam samosas.
2
Be it as a tea time snack with friends or as a
delicacy served to the guests, it feels that
Samosa has been a part of our life since forever.
However, do you know the origin of Samosa and
history behind it? You will be amazed to know
that Samosa never really belonged to India. This
golden snack was actually brought to India by the
traders from Central Asia or the Middle East.
Originally, it was known as Sambosa.
3
History of Samosa   The story of its coming to
India is quite interesting. It travelled a lot
through the heart of people around the globe. It
was originated in Egypt and then travelled
from Egypt to Libya to Central Asia to
India.   FoodPanache has captured the story
behind the evolution of Samosa in this video
https//www.youtube.com/watch?vLoQcB0z3C00   You
can just go through the link and know everything
about its evolution.

Moving ahead let's know the different names
of Samosa. During initial days, Samosas were
named as triangular pyramids and then Samsa' in
Egypt. In Persia, Samosa is known
as Sanbusaq' that is derived from the Persian
word Sanbosag'. When it reached to India, we
made its vegetarian triangular variants with
potatoes, peas, and onion to be served with
pudina Coriander chutney and imli chutney.
Journey in India   In India, Samosa was
introduced first in the 13th or
14th Century. Amir Khusro (1235-1325), a scholar
and the royal poet of the Delhi Sultanate, wrote
about samosas in around 1300. He said that the
princes and nobles enjoyed the Samosa prepared
from meat, ghee, onion, and so on.
5
Ibn Battuta travelled India in 14th-century travel
er to explore. He describes Samsoa as a meal at
the court of Muhammad Bin Tughluq, where the
Sanbusaq, a small pie stuffed with minced meat,
almonds, pistachios, walnuts, spices was served
before the main course.   Well, no matter from
where Samosa arrived in India. It has won all
Indian hearts and here it is well settled. You
can enjoy the exotics flavours of Samosa with
FoodPanache. Check more about samosa with our
