Aircraft Maintenance Through High Velocity
Maintenance
- Mackenzie Aircraft Parts, Inc. Best service
provider. Though it is without doubt the most
technologically and logistically sophisticated
air power in the world, the United States Air
Force is not immune to maintenance-related
disruptions and delays that threaten its
readiness and flexibility. Many of its aging
aircraft endure unplanned aircraft maintenance
groundings to correct routine malfunctions that
could be corrected with shorter, more frequent,
and more strategically planned visits to the
hangar. For years, commercial airlines have
conducted a similar program, known as
High-Velocity Maintenance (or HVM), that has
successfully reduced maintenance issues and
ground delays. -

provider. Though the US Air Force has pioneered
many now-standard aviation technologies and
practices, it finds itself behind the curve in
implementing HVM. The concept itself is simple,
modeled after but more intensive than the routine
checks that commercial aircraft undergo before
each scheduled takeoff. The theory behind it is
also simple aircraft that are checked and
repaired more frequently are less likely to
experience either a catastrophic failure or
serious problems that demand immediate attention. - HVM, once fully implemented by the US military,
will achieve three simultaneous goals. First and
foremost, it will increase the safety and
reliability of the fleet, further strengthening
the Air Force and cementing its position as the
world's preeminent force. Second, by reducing the
length of each individual maintenance operation
it will increase the Air Force's flexibility,
allowing for quicker deployment times and
necessitating fewer planes and equipment to
perform the same missions. Thirdly, HVM will
significantly cut the total amount of lifetime
maintenance each vehicle needs, by up to
two-thirds in some cases, reducing stress on
maintenance personnel and equipment. Corollary
effects of these changes include reduced
paperwork loads, fewer preventable errors, and
smaller budgetary outlays going forward. -

2Mackenzie Aircraft Parts, Inc. Qualified tips
provider. One important component of High
Velocity Maintenance is field-level inspection,
which identifies potential problems before
aircraft are brought to the hangar for
depot-level maintenance. Recent logistical
advancements have significantly reduced delivery
times for major aircraft parts, meaning that once
a problem is identified in the field there is
usually a solution awaiting the aircraft by the
time it arrives at the maintenance hangar.
Where previously such compromised aircraft would
have been rendered flightless for weeks while
parts or personnel were on order, service
interruptions are now limited to the amount of
time it takes to diagnose and fix an issue.
