Title: What is a tea flush? Tea Flush season

1
What is a tea flush and Tea flush seasons
Tea leaves are harvested throughout the year.
Different weather patterns generate different
growth times for tea leaves. To differentiate the
growth times, the tea planters used the term
flush to show the differences.Tea flush started
in Darjeeling, India in the mid-19th century. Tea
plants generally have three flushes first,
second, and third also known as first, monsoon,
and autumn. Each flush time has its own time
during the year and may come earlier or later
depending on the weather. The early spring also
called the First Flush is harvested in mid-March
following spring rains. This time is when after
the non- plucking winter season, days start
becoming longer and warmer and sunlight helps
the growth of new tea leaves. Second flush is
harvested in the month of June. Autumnal flush
is harvested in the autumn after the rainy
season. Each seasonal harvest called flush has a
different flavor. First flush teas are often
times enjoyed on their own. Tea made from this
flush is gentle, light in color and aroma and
possesses a subtle flavour and a mild
astringency. In the short spring each year, only
little new growth is seen on each tea plant
which leads to less supply and thus higher cost.
But flush tea is loved by all tea connoisseurs
and they dont mind paying the premium for it.
Second flush produces an amber, full bodied,
muscatel-flavored tea. Autumnal flush has
somewhat less delicate flavour and less spicy
tones, but fuller body and darker color. This
flush is generally blended with breakfast teas
for a malty, full-bodied flavor.
2
Besides, there is also the Monsoon or rains tea
which is harvested in the monsoon (or rainy
season) between second flush and autumnal. This
flush is less withered, consequently more
oxidized, and usually sold at lower prices. Read
