Title: Father Luke Melackrinos’s Views about Fasting before Christmas
1Father Luke Melackrinoss Views about Fasting
before Christmas
2Father Luke Melackrinos is a spiritual leader at
the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. Paul
Hempstead, New York. He believes in fasting
before Christmas and has plenty of resources to
prove its significance. Some of them include
calendars that outline exactly how to fast each
day, but not everyone can fast exactly the same
way.
3Father Luke says that Christmas is just like
Easter, the falling asleep of the Theotokos and
ever Virgin Mary, and the Syntax of Apostles, all
of it requires preparation cleansing before
celebration. He says that fasting without
confession, increased prayer life, helping the
less fortunate and participation in the
sacramental life of the Church, is just a diet.
4Luke Melackrinos focuses on the importance of
culture and faith. He is married to Marusia
(Podhurec), the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox
priest. Marusia has a Masters Degree in Guidance
and Counseling and is full time mother to Eleni,
Magdalena, and Mia. Luke with his entire family
serves the community of St. Paul. He provides
weekly volunteer service at the Mary Brennan INN
Soup Kitchen, and established the weekly food run
in Hempstead, New York.
5Father Luke Melackrinos has initiated and
re-initiated many Christ-Centered Ministries at
the Cathedral of St. Paul, such as the St. Paul's
Nursery School, Vacation Church School, and the
Little Angels Program. Currently, he is serving
on the Youth and Young Adults Committees of the
Archdiocesan Council the Direct Archdiocesan
District Council as an adviser on Young Adult
Ministries.
