Roman Empire. The building was built for the Diet
of the German Empire, which was succeeded by the

. Berlin Wall (1961-1989-) The Berlin Wall
(German Berliner Mauer) was a guarded concrete
barrier that physically and ideologically divided
Berlin from 1961 to 1989, the Wall completely cut
off (by land) West Berlin from surrounding East
Germany. After several weeks of civil unrest, the
East German government announced on 9 November
1989 that all GDR citizens could visit West
Germany and West Berlin.

3. Brandenburg Gate The Brandenburg Gate
(German Brandenburger Tor) is an eighteenth
century neoclassical landmark in Berlin, and one
of the best-known historic points of Germany. It
is based on the site of a previous city entryway
that denoted the begin of the street from Berlin
to the town of Brandenburg an der Havel.
