Being a section leader, you would definitely want
to make sure that, your section isn't singled out
for poor performance and preparation. It is a
large responsibility to be a section leader,
which puts you in an authority position. Your
best musical talent and leadership skills have
made you so. Although, it is worth the extra
responsibility to have the power to improve your
section and the band as a whole, but being a good
section leader will require effort.   Rehearsals  
It is your duty to contact your section members,
through phone or email address, reminding them of
the rehearsals and meetings. If a player does not
show up, on the day of a performance in a show
like classical music marching band show, this can
be useful.   To meet with your section for
private rehearsals, schedule a time that will be
suitable for all to gather. The time to arrive
shouldnt be compelled on them with you. That
sort of authoritarian leadership style could
spurn mutinies.   Before rehearsal, examine and
determine problem areas in the music for your
section. You must discuss, instruct players on
proper practice techniques and rehearse.

When you meet, beginning with a warm-up work
through the difficult parts of the music. To
practice the music at the proper tempo, bring a
metronome.   Conflicts   Before they become
serious issues, discuss problems that arise, with
members. You can prevent problems, by paying
attention to the needs of the members and knowing
about their feeling about the band.   When a
problem does arise, determine an appropriate plan
of action for the cases. You should always adhere
to those policies, put in place by the director.
Being a section leader means, even if you don't
agree with the rules, you have to enforce
them.   Preparedness   Before performing in shows
like the custom marching band shows, the
requirement at each sectional, rehearsal, and
performance must be discussed with your section.
Lubrication for the instruments, pencils for
taking notes are also required. Also, guide them
to practice the part, which they can't play in
the ensemble till they are able to do it.
