Look For the Details
  • A high-quality garment is something you're going
to have for a long time - and something its
makers expect to last for a long time. So Sara
says "something women should learn to look for
are those well-crafted functional details like
generously cut pockets or extra buttons and yarn
sewn into the inside of the garment." These
little details will extend the life of your new
    investment.

4
Decent Hem Allowances
  • The hem allowance is the width between the
hemline and the hem edge. If youre tall, you
already know that this extra bit of fabric can be
a life-saver when it comes to tailoring items to
    be a little longer.

5
Care Instructions Label For Natural Fibers
  • Natural fibers like silk, cotton, and wool stand
up to wear and tear better than synthetic
materials. 100 Cotton is using in Spark T-shirts.

6
Pattern Matches At The Seams
  • Check the side seams of a shirt and around any
pockets to instantly tell if quality is high or
    not.

7
Natural Fibers
  • Synthetic fabrics are notorious for piling, and
require lots of special care. If you want your
clothing to look great wash after wash, stick to
natural fibers like cotton, wool, linen and silk.

8
Good Quality Thread
  • Wimpy thread is only going to get wimpier over
time, so take a minute to examine the quality of
the thread that's been used to put the garment
together. Does it appear to be strong enough to
hold the fabric together? Could they have used
something stronger? Are the stitches reinforced
    where they should be?

9
Strong Stitches
  • Inspect the stitching of any garment that you're
considering for signs of unraveling, missed
stitches, loose stitches, snags, crooked lines
and other imperfections. Then, grab the fabric on
each side of a seam, and lightly tug to see how
well the garment holds together. If there's any
sign of pulling apart, leave it on the rack.

10
Finished Seams
  • Look over the seams of any outfit that you're
thinking of buying to make sure they lay flat and
are free of puckers and other irregularities.
Then, flip the piece inside out, and look at how
the seams were finished. Unfinished edges are a
    sign of poor quality.
