Climate?

COLD CLIMATE REGIONS
2
Huskies, Newfoundlands, Saint Bernard, Golden
Retriever, Bernese Mountain Dog, and the Great
Pyrenees, all suited for cold climate regions
because their double fur coat helps them to
keep warm. These dogs are suited for the cold
and snow in a much better way compared to other
dogs. Hair shedding is also much higher for
these breeds.
3
HOT/WARM CLIMATE REGIONS
3
Short-haired breeds such as Greyhound, Great
Dane or Dachshund, Doberman Pinscher,
Dalmatian, Beagle, Border Collie and Cairn
Terrier are more suitable for hot weather
climates. These breeds do not require a lot of
exercises. Unlike humans, they don't have any
sweat glands and usually, pant to cool
themselves off.
4
ITS All ABOUT THE SNOUT
4
Dogs with longer noses or snout are preferable
in warmer climatic regions as they can let in
and let out a larger volume of air. Pugs, Boxers
and Pekinese, which are flat-faced breeds are
uncomfortable in warm weather conditions. The
size of the nose matters more than the body mass.
5
POTENTIAL SKIN PROBLEMS
5
Skin problems mainly occur in dogs with wrinkles.
It is recommended that you should go for a breed
of dog that has no wrinkles in its skin if you
are living in a high humidity area. Wrinkle
skins trap moisture and help in the formation of
bacteria which causes skin infection.
6
POTENTIAL EYE DISEASE PROBLEMS
6
High exposure to UV rays causes pannus in the
dog's eye. This is common in sunny climate areas
where they spent a lot of times outside. Pannus,
thickens the scar tissue over the cornea. German
Shepherds are primarily affected by pannus while
it may also occur among Border Collies,
Dachshunds, Greyhounds and Siberian Huskies.
