OBJECTIVE
  • The Employees' Provident Fund provides social
    security benefits to Employees of establishments
    on which the Employees Provident Fund and
    Miscellaneous Provisions Act 1952 applies.
  • It is administered by Employee Provident Fund
    Organisation (EPFO) in India.
  • The Act mainly provides Retirement or old age
    benefits such as Provident fund, Superannuation
    fund, Family Pension, Deposit linked Insurance.

APPLICABILITY
  • The Employees' Provident Fund and Miscellaneous
    Provisions Act 1952 applies to the whole India
    except Jammu Kashmir
  • Every establishment which is a factory engaged in
    any industry specified in Schedule I in which
    20 or more persons are employed.
  • Cooperative Societies employing 50 or more
    persons and working without aid of power.
  • Cinema theatres employing 5 or more persons.

REGISTRATION OF ESTABLISHMENT
  • Every Establishment or entity covered under this
    Act have to get them registered with the
    Employee's Provident Fund department with in 1
    month of becoming eligible.
  • An establishment to which the act applies shall
    continue to be governed by this act even if the
    number of employees employed falls below the
    limit.

ELIGIBILITY OF EMPLOYEES
  • An employee drawing wages up to Rs. 15000 is
    eligible to become a member.
  • He/she is qualified for membership of fund from
    the very first date of joining a covered
    establishment.
  • Wages include Basic Dearness Allowances Cash
    value of food concession and retaining
    allowances, if any

CONTRIBUTION
  • Employees Contribution 3.67 of basic salary
    is contributed to provident fund and 8.33 is
    submitted in Pension scheme.
  • Employers Contribution 12 of basic salary
  • Due date for payment of contribution is 15th day
    of every month.

DOCUMENTS/INFORMATION REQUIRED
  • PAN issued by Income Tax Department in the name
    of Establishment.
  • Documentary proof of address of the
    establishment.
  • Documentary proof of the date of setup of the
    establishment.
  • Factory License issued by the competent authority
    or any other license.
  • Any document regarding the ownership type of the
    establishment.
  • At least one bank account details. A scanned copy
    of the cheque with the bank/branch and account
    number clearly visible.
