How to Remove Credit Inquiries from Your Credit
Score
3
  • You might be in the market for a new house or
car, or maybe you were just curious, but whatever
your reason for checking your credit, you may
have noticed that in the credit inquiry section
there is a long list of companies that you might
not even remember dealing with- but don't worry!
There are a few ways that you can remove
inquiries from your credit bureau to prevent them
from affecting your overall credit score.

4
Step One Prioritize Debts
5
  • Before you try to remove inquiries, review your
credit carefully and determine what else you
might need to take care of first. If you have
outstanding debts or unpaid bills, you need to
worry about the big fish first. After, you can
    focus on the hard inquiries.

6
Step Two Get the Whole Picture
7
  • Chances are when you requested you credit score,
you only requested one. Although FICO scores
combine Equifax, TransUnion and Experian scores,
depending on when each company sends or receives
new information it might not be accurate, making
it difficult to remove inquiries. Instead, order
a copy of your report from each company, and
remember it will be considered a soft inquiry
and will not affect your credit score.

8
Step Three Challenge Hard Inquiries.
9
  • This is the most frustrating step, and although
it is faster and more convenient to use an
inquiry removal service, if you choose to "go it
alone" expect a long process that begins with
itemizing your hard inquiries, tracking down each
    company and calling daily.
  • Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, only checks
you consented to should appear on your bureau,
but when representing yourself the onus is on you
to prove that you didn't give your permission if
    you want to remove inquiries.

10
What happens if I can't remove inquiries?
11
  • If you attempt correcting your credit on your own
and the businesses you contact refuse to remove
inquiries, don't respond, or provide what they
feel is sufficient evidence of your consent,
tryInquiry Busters. In most cases, what it takes
to remove inquiries is persistence and if you
don't have the time to follow-up, you might not
    see results.
