Following the allegations of illegal beach sand
mining against VV Minerals India, the State
Government had suspended all mining activities in
the south. A special investigation team was set

VV Mineral Vaikundarajan, the founder of VVM,
pleaded innocence and stated that the allegations
were a ploy by business rivals to defame his
company.

A former IAS officer, V Sundaram, had alleged
that the government lost 90000 crores to illegal
mining by a sand mafia. He further claimed to
have received threatening phone calls for his
comments in the media. In his email to Niranjan
Mardi, the states chief secretary, Sundaram
stated, I derive my constitutional right to
serve as a fearless whistleblower under article
51A of the Indian Constitution.

He further insists on fighting gigantic public
corruptions and demands adequate and immediate
police protection from the Tamil Nadu government.

Evidence linking VV Minerals to illegal mining or
death threats are yet to be confirmed. The
company issues a statement denying all
allegations made against it. VV Minerals lawyer
S Ravindran Duraisamy said, Mr Sundaram's
complaint against us is a publicity stunt. He has
joined hands with our business rival Mr Daya
Devadosan. We came out clean earlier after an
inspection in May and this time too we will come
out clean.
