Preparation
  • A mixture of rice and urad dal is soaked in water
for the entire night, this mixture is then finely
grinded to a very fine paste. This batter
preparation differs from state to state, but the
one with rice and urad dal is the authentic
batter thats been followed down south. This
batter is then ladled on a hot tava, spread it
out evenly and top it up with a spoon of ghee.

Health Aspects
  • Dosa is a healthy breakfast and a fast moving
street food. This is a fermented food with no
sugar or fatty acids and helps to increase
vitamin B and Vitamin C content. This staple food
is rich in carbohydrates and protein. These dosa
batters are readily available in stores nearby
you. The calorie count is low in dosa, since it
is considered as a high glycemic index food it
should be avoided by diabetic patients.

Varieties
  • Dosas can be stuffed with Potato fillings,
vegetable mixed fillings, Onions, Tomatoes etc.
Anything can be stuffed and it really goes well
with fiery hot chutneys, Pudhina chutney, Sambar
and coconut chutneys. People down south prefer to
have their home made dosas along with Podi. A
