When the snow begins to fall, the roads become
more dangerous. Snow and ice pose major threats
for drivers. Before you even get out on the
roadways, make sure youre prepared for winter
travel.  Be preparedBe sure to check the
weather conditions before you leave. Check that
your cars gas tank is filled, fluids- especially
windshield washer fluid - are full, and supplies
such as a snow brush and ice scraper are in your
car. Clear off the snow and ice from the windows
and roof of your car before driving. Also, to
help avoid any breakdowns while driving in winter
weather, make sure that your vehicle is current
on routine maintenance. Our ten essential

travel, take a look at these tips for driving
your car in the snow and ice Accelerate and
decelerate slowly. If you give the car a lot of
gas it might cause you to skid or lose traction
altogether. Also, give yourself plenty of time to
come to a stop. If you apply the brakes quickly
or with a lot of force you might find yourself
skidding.

you are more likely to drive poorly. If you can,

out for your destination. Keep a safe
distance. Increase your following distance so
that you have plenty of time and room to
stop.  Know your brakes. Different braking
systems react differently in the snow, so be sure
you know what kind of brakes your car has. Know
your car. Different cars operate differently in
the winter. For example, if you drive an electric
car, you will need to minimize the drain on your
battery. If you are driving a rental, review the
owners manual briefly before setting out. Stay
home. Dont drive in bad weather unless you
really have to.
