  • In this seminar, Christopher Whitelaw discusses
    the need for legal practitioners to rethink their
    attitude to, and use of, ADR. He addresses
    common legal practitioner objections such as

  •          its a waste of time and money
  •          its against commercial interests
  •          the client does not want it
  •          proposing ADR makes us look weak and
    desperate
  •          a lawyer who proposes ADR has an
    ulterior motive

  •          the parties hate each other so it
    cannot work
  •          the law/facts/issues are too complex
  •          the mediator lacks sufficient skill to
    make it work
  •          the client will be pressured into
    making a bad decision.

About the Presenter
  • Christopher Whitelaw was admitted as a solicitor
    in NSW in 1981 and called to the NSW Bar in
    1992.  He studied law at the Australian National
    University and obtained his Masters degree in law
    from the University of Technology in 2000.  He
    became an accredited Mediator in 2001 and was
    accredited by LEADR under the new national
    accreditation scheme in 2008.
