Digestive Enzyme Supplements Things to Know
2
  • If youre thinking about buying a digestive
enzyme supplement then you need to understand
what they are and why you should take them. The
aim of this article is to provide you with a
simply overview on digestive enzymes and their
supplements. By the time you reach the end of the
article, you should know whether they are right
    for you, or not.
  • What are enzymes? Enzymes are substances that
create a chemical reaction between other
substances. In reference to digestive enzymes,
the reaction is usually the breakdown of food
into parts that can easily be digested by the
human body. For example, they break foods into
various categories, such as protein, fats,
sugars, minerals, and vitamins, which are then
absorbed through the intestinal and colonic
    walls.

  • There are different types of enzymes, and they
all have varying roles in the human body. Some,
such as the active digestive enzymes have roles
that are strictly reserved for digestion. Others
may have roles in fighting off bacteria, or
    tackling allergens.
  • Where do we get our enzymes?
  • In the case of digestive enzymes, we find them in
    several different places
  • The body manufactures them in the pancreas.
  • The body manufactures them in the salivary
    glands.
  • We consume them in the foods we eat. For example,
papaya and pineapple are commonly cited sources
of digestive enzymes. Many raw foods contain
enzymes, but their cooked counterparts do not.
This isnt problematic, because the cooking
process is actually doing the same thing that our
enzymes would do for us its just happening
    outside the body.

  • Active Digestive Enzymes

  • How do you know if you need to increase your
    enzyme levels?
  • If you eat a balanced diet, its fairly unlikely
that you will require active digestive enzymes as
a supplement. You should already be producing
enzymes, and consuming them in your diet. Those
of you that follow a relatively poor diet may
well be in need of supplementation. There are a
few signs that indicate a problem here, these
    include
  • 1. Digestive problems because youre food
isnt being digested adequately you will
encounter problems. You might find undigested
food in your stools. You could experience
    bloating, gas, diarrhoea, or constipation.

6
  • 2.General feelings of malaise again, because
your food isnt being digested properly, its
unlikely that youre obtaining the required
amounts of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients.
Clearly, this will leave you feeling unhealthy.
Furthermore, your digestive system will be
working in overtime, which will be drawing
precious energy resources away from the body.
Again, this will increase feeling so tiredness
  • 3.Symptoms of systematic inflammation this can
cause widespread problems, such as joint pain,
    foggy thinking, headaches, and lethargy.
  • If you do need additional enzymes, then you can
buy supplements from your local health food shop
or online. While there is no certain way of
knowing if you need additional supplements,
taking them will not cause issues either way, and
so its always worth trying them just to see if
you do experience improvements in the issues
    listed above.
