93 Years and Counting Since 1920, weve been here
to take care of your heating and plumbing
needs. VEARL MANWILL It was the year 1920 when
Vearl Manwill first began his travels through the
towns of central and northern Utah. He prepared
his horse, packed only a meager collection of
tools, some carbide lights, a pile of pipe, and
set out on a journey that would lead him to a
number of farmhouses to install modern carbide
lanterns and piping. Vearl was an innovator above
all, and the installations he was involved in
were part of the first indoor lighting system in
history. After many years Vearl decided to make a
home in Salt Lake City and later opened up a
plumbing shop in his garage on 2700 South. It
wasnt until 1943 that Vearl Manwill would open
up his first showroom on 365 East and 300 South
in Salt Lake City. During that time period it
was impossible to receive a loan for a shop
selling strictly plumbing and heating
appliances, so Vearl was forced to vend other
goods in his store, including jewelry. Vearl knew
how to work hard and he also knew how to attract
a crowd. Soon after he opened up his showroom
Vearl bought one of the first television sets in
Salt Lake City. Though the TV set only featured
black and white pictures, it became the talk of
the town and attracted hordes of people to the
new showroom. In time, Vearl no longer needed to
sell jewelry and other appliances and was free
to sell what he did bestplumbing and heating
goods.

needs. JAMES MANWILL In the 1950s Vearls son
James took over the business and added upon the
traditional heating and plumbing that made the
Manwill name famous. In addition to heating and
plumbing service, Manwill made air conditioning
and excavating a key part of their business. The
expansion also created an opportunity to move to
their present location on 3900 South in
1964. The majority of residential and light
commercial heating and plumbing jobs were
contracted by Manwill in the period following
the expansion. Even today its not rare for
people to find a Manwill sticker on their
furnace or water heater.

needs. JIM MANWILL (THIRD GENERATION) Like his
father and his grandfather before him, Jim
learned all there is to know about plumbing and
heating as he grew up helping the family
business. Jim spent his early days in the
business doing the grunt work which included
digging trenches, sweeping floors and stocking
shelves. By the time Jim was 18 years old he was
installing plumbing and heating systems in new
homes. Later he performed service and repair of
HVAC equipment and soon went into sales and
management. When 1996 rolled around Jim decided
to purchase the family business. Currently Jim
manages more than 40 employees who focus on
providing the highest quality customer service
and customer satisfaction in the heating and
plumbing industry. Jim received the Circle of
Excellence award in 2008, a recognition given
to the best 25 contractors in North America and
Canada. He has also received the Best of State
award in 2011, 2012, and 2013.

needs. BRIAN JACKSON (FOURTH GENERATION) Brian
Jackson (Jims nephew and fourth generation)
assists in Manwills day-to-day operations and
work as the companys installation manager.
Brian also grew up in the business performing all
aspects of plumbing and heating. Brian is
hard-working, ambitious, and we expect him to
climb the ranks and achieve a higher position in
the company in the near future. Together our
company managers are excited to continually offer
exceptional service and maintain the reputation
of Manwill.
