SURFACE SAMPLING FOR MOLD Surface sampling is
the most common technique used to test surfaces
for mold during a mold inspection.  It provides
valuable information.  The species of mold, the
relative degree of contamination, and the
potential for airborne spore production may all
be determined by tape sampling. This method can
be performed using either standard, clear
cellophane tape or a packaged kit specifically
designed for mold sampling.  Both types involve
sampling by direct contact to visible mold.

AIR SAMPLING FOR MOLD Taking air samples during
a mold inspection is important for several
reasons.  Mold spores are not visible to the
naked eye, and the types of mold present can
often be determined through laboratory analysis
of the air samples.  Having samples analyzed can
also help provide evidence of the scope and
severity of a mold problem, as well as aid in
assessing human exposure to mold spores.

COMMON MOLD TESTS There are may forms of mold
testing that can determine whether or not your
home or office has mold, and the severity of
issue if one exists. The most common form of
testing is Air Sampling, which basically traps
spores in the air onto a sticky slide within a
cassette that is mounted on top of a pump. The
cassette is then detached, secured and sent off
to a lab for analysis. Another common type of
test is Surface Sampling. This form of testing is
to take a direct lift of a suspect area, and
place it onto a slide and then it too is sent for
analysis. Swab sampling is nearly the same as
surface sampling, without the use of the slide,
but it too is testing a suspect area with direct
contact. For the next few days well discuss and
detail each of the most common mold tests used
today.
