Title: How Exercise Can Benefit the Seniors Brain

1
How Exercise Can Benefit the Seniors Brain
2
Increasing Blood Flow
  • Choosing to exercise on a regular basis helps
to promote more efficient blood flow. Most people
tend to think of this benefit as applying to
muscles or the heart. The fact is improved blood
flow also has a positive impact on the brain.
Remember that blood helps to carry nutrients to
every part of the body. A brain that is receiving
enough nutrition is less likely to develop many
of the issues associated with growing older.

3
The Cognitive Benefits
  • Doing as little as thirty minutes of
moderate exercise will aid in maintaining mental
clarity. The fact that it is possible to think
clearly will certainly improve the quality of
life. Consider what strong cognitive abilities
can do regarding being able to participate in a
conversation, manage tasks like paying bills or
even preparing a meal. When there are no periods
of confusion or being unsure of what needs to
happen next, it will be much easier to enjoy what
    each day brings.

4
Forget About Being Forgetful
  • Exercise has the effect of stimulating the
brain in a manner that helps to release chemicals
that aid in memory retention. While everyone will
have an occasional issue like forgetting where
the car keys are or recalling the name of someone
who has not been seen in years, remembering
things should not be part of every day. With the
right blend of exercises, expect to not only feel
more alert but also capable of remembering things
    when and as needed.

5
A Better Mood
  • People of all ages tend to enjoy more
balanced moods thanks to regular exercise. The
activity prompts the release of the
neurotransmitters that help to regulate mood. For
a senior who notices that it is all too easy to
get upset about things that used to be no bother
at all, exercising can help banish those periods
of irritation. Instead, it will be much easier
not to be bothered by little things and have a
    more positive outlook overall.

6
  • Remember that the type of exercise done
should challenge you physically to provide the
benefits desired. Work with a professional to
come up with a fitness regimen that is in line
with your current state of health. As time goes
on and you increase your stamina, it will be
possible to do a little more. In the interim, you
will begin to notice differences in the way you
think, remember, and even in your general mood.
