Title: Dr. Donald Sonn - The Role of a Teacher in Providing Education
1 Dr. Donald Sonn The Role of a Teacher in
Providing Education
2For many students, the role of a teacher is
limited to what the students can see in front of
them. However, being a teacher goes beyond
standing in front of the class. Even though
teachers spend a majority of their days
lecturing, this part constitutes a small aspect
of what teaching is all about. An effective
teacher knows that their work involves multiple
roles so that as they lecture in a class, the
students receive quality knowledge.
3The planner
As a planner, a teacher is constantly looking to
ensure they are giving their best to every class.
Doing so involves attending professional classes
to learn the best practices for good teaching.
Collaboration with other educators is also a key
to their growth as they gain new ideas for use in
the classroom environment. In addition, a teacher
also has to plan their lessons around the
interests of the class and course curriculum,
which is often a delicate balance that takes
proper planning and organization.
4Learning facilitators
Rather than just lecture, most teachers look to
facilitate learning by providing the best
information for students to engage with. At
times, the teacher will lecture. Other times,
they will act as tutors and ensure that each
student is able to understand the information
being presented.
5Interact with students
This aspect of being a teacher is perhaps the
most important. Interacting with students means
leading by example in order to gain the trust and
respect of students. It also means finding a
balance between being approachable and doling out
discipline where necessary. A teachers words
have the power to build or break a students
self-confidence, so teachers have to keep their
students best interests at heart.
