Considering the credentials and benefits of
National Olympiads, some Nonprofit
organizations and private organizations also
started conducting Olympiad exams with the
aim of promoting science, mathematics,
computer, English, French and German among
school children. Olympiad exams have established
as aptitude builders among the students.
Every year schools, in association with
such organizations, conduct these Olympiad
Exams for the students of class 1 to 12. These
exams are optional and students choose their
options and appear in these exams
voluntarily. The following pte-chart depicts
the various Olympiad Tests with their importance.
The significance of National Olympiad
programme in basic sciences was recognized
by the scientific community in India for
a long time. And India started pa rttcl
pating in the I nternational Mathematics
Olympiad from 1989. And later, it was realized
that lndta must also participate tn the
International Olympiads in basic sciences
Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
INDIAN DELEGATION 7th International Astronomy
and The National Olympiad programme in
physics, chemistry, biology, junior science
and astronomy is overseen by a National
Steering Committee constituted by the DAE. The
programme follows a five stage process. Stage I
of the programme is the organizational
responsibility of the Indian Association
of Physics Teachers ( I APT). All the
subsequent stages are conducted by HBCSE.
The selected Indian teams undergo a
rigorous training programme at HBCSE in
theory and experiment and prepared to
particlpate in International Olympiads.

• These tests are organized in 2 levels. In the
  1st level, MCQs from specified field are asked.
  Some questions also pertain to Mental Ability or
  Logical Reasoning.
• The students a re required to answer
  35-50 questions in 60 minutes, with
  every question
• carrying one mark each.
• Exams conducted by the different
  organizations have diPerent patterns. There
  is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
