Welingkar students contributed in a collaborative
effort in Kumhathon by Massachusetts Institute of
Technology (Boston), USA.
Aligned with the national agenda of Digital
India, Kumbhathon started as an initiative to
find solutions for Kumbh Mela, Dr. Uday Salunkhe
explained. However, now it has become a testing
ground for projects to convert a city into a
smart city. All shops on-line is one such project.

What can user do with a Central Wall?
A place where vendors meet customers, this is a
platform for all the shops in the city to
register online. Currently, it only provides
information on shops basics and key specialties.

Current Status

• Search location, keyword and category based
  information
• Top 10 nearest locations information on the
  webpage and app.
• Shop address along with co-ordinates stored in
  the system to capture on GPS and suggest the
  shortest distance
• Webpage www.centralwall.in
• Basic android app
• Data base of around 1000 shops around Nasik road

Challenges

• Double entry of the data in the system after it
  is collected from the field
• Mapping all the shops with the exact location

How was it tackled?
An application with a digital form was created.
The volunteers would fill in the details to help
shopkeepers register. GPS coordinate tracker was
installed to tackle data duplication and mapping
issues.

Future Prospect

• Scale up the project across India
• Subscription model for the shops post Kumbhathon
• Every shops webpage to be created with maps and
  photos
• Advertisement space for the shops on webpage

Welingkars relation with the MIT has given
students a platform to apply their theoretical
management skills to live projects and build
interpersonal relations with people from
different background. It has also taught them how
collaboration can lead to speeding up the event
success.
In no time Kumbhathon has bought all the
essential stakeholders to join hands in making
Nasik a smart city, concluded Dr. Uday Salunkhe.
