Security guard certification is a necessity to be
a guard.

• It is an essential requirement of many states
  that security officers and guards should be
  licensed. According to the security guard act
  1992 security guards in New York State are
  required to have a license. A security guard is a
  person engaged by an agreement with a security
  organization or proprietary security organization
  to protect lives, assets or property from
  unauthorized or illegal activities. Security
  Guard/Officer who has security guard
  certification is preferred by most organizations.
  A guard who has armed guard certification and
  license can work in both posts of armed and
  unarmed guards. He does not require holding an
  additional license for unarmed guard post.
• Basic requirements to be armed/unarmed security
  officer
• 1. Primary requirement to be a security guard
  officer is the person should be of 18 years or
  more.
• 2. He must be citizen of the particular country
  where he going to serve. He is required to have
  the citizenship of the country where he wants to
  work.
• 3. A minimum requirement of education for
  enrolling in security guard is a high school
  diploma.

4. The person who is going to apply for license
should have a clean criminal record. If a person
with bad criminal past wants to go for a license
then the person is required to have completed
serving sentence or court ordered probation at
least five years prior to application. 5. It is
necessary that the person should not be suffering
from habitual drunkenness and he should not be a
drug addict. 6. Person should not have any
mental disorder and should not be handicapped. He
should be of a good moral character. 7. Person
has to submit three finger prints cards or
electronic finger prints for further criminal
investigation or checking by FBI and TBI.
Training procedure and requirement to be
security officer Security guard training courses
and security guard certifications are offered by
public/private universities and by security
agencies of the country. This training procedure
includes examination covering subjects and proper
training for the use of a Stun Gun, Chemical
Spray, Night Stick or the various equipment of
security guard. This is a responsibility of the
instructor or trainer to keep accurate records of
their trainees growths and improvements.

After training of 90 days certification card or
license is issued by the instructor/trainer or
the administration of the security agencies after
examining the professional requirement of
security guard. Applicant must complete eight
hours of certified training and 16 hours of on
the job training. Then the certification is given
to him. After getting the security guard
certificate security guard can do a guard job.
Security guard certification needs renewals A
security guard certification expires after 3
years of the issuing date. It is necessary to
renew the security guard certification for
continuing in guard job. They give grace period
of 90 days to renew the license after expiry of
certification. The renewal process only needs a
renewal applicant form, renewal fee and any late
