Title: Writing a research paper

1
Writing a research paper.
2
Nearly all institutions of higher
education courses entail some kind of
comprehensive writing assignment. Most of these
assignments will be in the form of a research
paper. Research papers generally oblige a student
spot out a wide area of research associated with
the course, concentrate the topic through some
usual background reading, spot out an apparent
research question, assemble the primary and
secondary resources to answer the question, and
present the case in a clear and creative manner,
with proper references. There is some general
rule to follow while preparing research papers.
Here we discuss five main rules.
3
Do background analysis, think hard and discuss
with your professor about the topic.
At the commencement of a course, you won't
be familiar with the major topics related to your
subject area. You should start by doing some
general reading in your subject area. Read a few
books or articles on topics you find of interest.
Then, discuss with your professor about some of
your general ideas and the feasible research
directions you are thinking about chasing.
4
Have a clear research question.
Research questions that do not require an
argument are just bad questions. How and why
questions are necessary because they need the
writer to make an argument. Apparently, you
require to have a solid understanding of the
details of the case, but you must then move on to
answer a crucial and important why or how
question in the paper itself.
5
Do some real research.
Real research implies using primary sources.
The advantage about primary sources is that they
take you as close as likely to where the action
is the real, on-the-ground, rubber-meets-the-road
facts from which you will craft your interpretive
argument.
6
Make an argument.
A research paper must not only gather facts,
details about the world, but it must unite
together these facts so that they shape an
argument that answers the research question. A
good argument will have influential facts and
details anchored in dependable sources and
reasonable in the presentation of evidence, and
reach a clear and focused conclusion that answers
the question posed at the beginning of the
paper.
7
Write well.
Writing well indicates presenting your
argument and facts in a clear, reasonable, and
inspired way. Sources must be precisely and
effectively quoted in footnotes. The writing
style must be formal and serious. Tables, graphs
or other figures should be included if they back
your general theory.
8
Steps in preparing a research paper.
9
1. Make a thorough study on your topic. 2.
Find your thesis report. 3. Discover the
proofs that establish your thesis. 4.
