What is Breast Cancer

  • Cancer can be defined as uncontrolled or
    unnatural growth of cells forming tumor.
  • When this uncontrolled growth starts from tissues
    of the Breast, it is termed as Breast cancer.
  • Tumor can be of two types
  • Benign No danger to health.
  • Malignant / Cancerous It is cancerous tumor.

  • According to the studies conducted, 1 in 28
    women develop breast cancer once in a lifetime.
  • Globally 1 in 1000 men are at risk on developing
    breast cancer once in their lifetime.

SYMPTOMS TO WATCH

  • Swelling of all or part of breast or inflammation
    in the armpit.
  • Lump in the underarm or breast that feels
    different from normal breast tissue.
  • Variation in the shape or position of nipple.
  • Strange discharge other than breast milk.
  • Pain in the breast

DIAGNOSIS

  • Mammography
  • Most common and effective way
  • X-ray images are taken from different angles
    called mammogram.
  • Normal tissues appear opaque and white.
  • Fatty tissues appear translucent and black.
  • Still around 10 cases remain undetected through
    it.
  • Ultrasound
  • Determine whether lump is solid mass or cyst.
  • Uses sound waves which are safe.

DIAGNOSIS CONTINUED

  • Magnetic Resource Imaging(MRI)
  • Helps differentiating Malignant(Cancerous) and
    Benign(Non-cancerous) tumors.
  • Safety Measures should be taken.
  • Biopsy
  • Only done when abnormality is detected through
    other tests .
  • Sample of suspicious cells or tissues is taken to
    be looked under microscope.
  • Only procedure which can conclude when lump is
    cancerous or not.
