Building Your Own 3D Printer With The Printrbot
Simple Makers Kit V2 Model 1405 Deciding to
build a PrintrBot 3D Printer from the PrintrBot
Simple Maker Kit V2 Model 1405 latest version
from a novice tech point of view. Tech hobbyists
or any entrepreneurs wanting to build a 3D
printer for whatever reason have a lot more
options and choices at much cheaper prices
available to them now in 2015 than they did the
last few years. Whether you want a 3D printer
that works out-of- the-box without much setting
up hassle that's quick and easy to use then you
might want to go for something compact and
all-in-one like the upcoming da Vinci Junior 3D
printer released in March 2015 from XYZprinting.
But for those that want a much more hands on
experience, getting to learn how each part of the
3D printer works as you make it yourself piece by
piece eventually building a high quality
professional grade prosumer 3D Printer. Then the
Printrbot Simple Makers Kit V2 Model 1405 3D
Printer is available at the same price and works
out cheaper than buying it pre-assembled if
you're prepared to get your hands
dirty. PrintrBot's Simple Makers Kit 2 3D
Printer uses FDM printing technology and has a
print resolution of 100 microns and build volume
of 4" x 4" x 4" (100mm x 100mm x 100mm). So you
get super fine print quality and enough space for
most small to small-medium projects. The 3D
PrintrBot 1405 3D printer allows you to do
untethered printing via its micro USB and micro
SD card slots connected to Printrbot Rev F
Printrboard. This means you can send your 3D
models and things to it from your computer or an
SD card. No 3D printer calibration
software/firmware is provided with the kit but
you can just use the free Cura (software.ultimaker
.com) or even Repetier (repetier.com) 3D printer
calibration software which are both free open
source 3D printer calibration softwares you can
download and install on your PC that can help you
to setup and calibrate your PrintrBot 1405 3D
Printer to send your 3D models to it to actually
be printed. Slic3r (slic3r.org) is another
recommended 3D printer software you that converts
digital 3D models into printing instructions for
your 3D printer. Get the G-code generator for
your PrintrBot printer. Model 1405 is the latest
version which is meant to have a much easier and
more fool proof construction design with easier
to understand instructions and all the parts are
laser labeled making assembly much easier.
Overall PrintrBot Simple Maker's Kit 3D Printer
has a new design with new features at a very
reasonable and reduced price compared to if you
buy the PrintrBot Simple Maker's Kit
pre-assembled for you.

XYZPrinting da Vinci Junior 3D Printer Vs
PrinterBot Simple Makers Kit 2 3D Printer Let's
say the most important thing is printing
resolution and build size. On the one hand, you
have XYZPrinting who are one of the leaders when
it comes to high quality affordable home-based to
professional 3D printers. Take the da Vinci 1.0
3D Printer or the da Vinci 2.0 Duo 3D Printer.
They are both FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) 3D
printers that resolution wise, can both print at
a fine 100 microns (0.1 mm) thickness. Their
build volume is 5.9 x 7.8 x 7.8 inches and 7.8W x
7.8H x 7.8D inches respectively. Their Noble 1.0
SLA 3D Printer is capable of printing at a
resolution of 300 microns (0.3mm) along the X/Y
axis and 25 microns (0.025mm) along the Z axis
with a 5" x 5" x 7.9" build volume, however SLA
is a different 3D printing technology. Or you may
want to consider the up and coming XYZprinting da
Vinci Junior 3D Printer. Released in March
2015 it will have a build volume of 5.9" x 5.9" x
5.9" inches and a layer resolution of 100 microns
(0.1mm). The PrintrBot 1405 has a printing
resolution of 0.1mm or 100 microns along the Z
axis with a build volume size of 4" x 4" x 4"
inches. All three XYZPrinting three dimensional
printers are still ideal allinone solutions for
prosumers, schools, universities, offices or
private basements and anyone that wants a 3D
printer that is going to work out of the box
without much tinkering, setting up, building and
installing. But the PrintrBot has its own perks
and benefits for the entrepreneur or professional
printer. Now lets say the other most important
thing is the ease of use and robustness.
XYZPrinting 3D printers provide this in
compactness and user-friendliness. They don't
require much time to setup and use like they
would with the Printrbot Simple Makers Kit. But
once its built and ready to use it's a different
story. Once its built its ready to use and be put
to work. And when it works it works well.
PrintrBot 3D printers have a solid reputation for
long term performance. They are strong, ridged
printers with a low failure rate and high track
record for high quality and reliable prints.
However the greatest part about the PrintrBot 3D
printer is that if a certain part should fail or
not perform up to scratch then you can quite
easily repair or replace this yourself without
having to send the printer back to the factory to
be assessed by a technician. Also there is a lot
of help and support, videos, guides and
information out there to help you achieve most
things with the Printrbot Model 1405 3D printer.
One only has to do a search online to find blogs
and forums of many other people who are also
building their own Printrbot 3D Printer. Whether
they started with the early 1401 version and are
upgrading the 1401 to the 1405. Or they are just
starting with the 1405. What's the difference you
ask? To quote someones real life experience that
they had that they go spot on. A snippet taken
from Upgrading a Printrbot Simple 2013 to a
Simple Makers Edition (1405) using the Makers
Upgrade Kit has it down like this explaining the
different released versions and the various parts
each came with.
