Solar Panels Are They Right for You?
  • Solar panels make use of the most abundant energy
source on the planet the sun. They produce clean
electricity without any of the pollutants
associated with dirtier fuels, such as fossil
fuels and natural gas. Solar panels can help you
to reduce the cost of your energy bills, and in
some instances, create enough electricity to stay
independent of the grid. If you are thinking of
buying solar panels for your property, then were
here to tell you that its a great idea. Read on

The Benefits of Solar Panels
  • There are many benefits to using solar panels.
The benefits that tend to swing most people are
  •  You can substantially reduce the cost of your
electricity bills. The initial cost of the solar
panels may be expensive, but within a short space
of time, they start to pay for themselves. The
longer you leave it to install solar panels the
better your cost-benefit will be in terms of the
initial repayment, because they are coming down
    in price year on year.
  • You are paid for generating electricity for the
grid. Thats right you can actually make money
from the installation of solar panels. With newer
models (built after 2012), you will make 4.5p per
unit of electricity you give to the grid. When
your panels are making more electricity than you
need, you can sell it to the grid.
  • Its more environmentally friendly. Solar panels
are a clean energy source. They do not emit
carbon dioxide and there is no air or sound
    pollution.

What Is a Solar Panel?
  • The proper name for a solar panel is photovoltaic
solar panels. Photovoltaic solar panels comprise
photovoltaic cells (PV cells). A PV cell
    comprises layers of semi-conducting material
these are corresponding layers one negative and
one positive. The most common semi-conductive
material used in the manufacturing of
photovoltaic solar panels is silicon. When the
sunlight hits the cell it creates an electric
field between the positive and negative layers
and releases an electron. These positively
charged electrons are electricity, and we channel
this by using wires within the solar panel. The
electrons travel down the wire as electricity,
either going to the grid, or going into your home
    to power your appliances.

  • The more sunlight there is on the panel, the
greater the effect of the semi-conducting
material and the creation of electricity.
However, even on a cloudy day that solar panels
can still create electricity, although less so
    than on a sunny day.
  • What Savings Can You Expect?
  • Between the amount of electricity you generate
for your home and the surplus you generate for
the grid you can make an average saving of 700 a
year for a solar panel of 4KWp. The initial
layout for a system of this size is around 5000.
This means that you wont start to make real
savings until year 7. However, solar panels are
coming down in price so it may be worth holding
out for a little while longer, or finding someone
who will install the panels for less money.
Regardless of the savings in terms of money, you
will be helping to save the environment, so it is
worth the investment in our opinion.
