• Phthalic anhydride (PA) is a derivative of
  phthalic acid, which is obtained from the
  oxidation of o-Xylene or naphthalene. A stringent
  supply of naphthalene has arisen due to the
  decreasing coke consumption (that resulted in low
  naphthalene and coal tar production).
• PA is manufactured in two forms flakes and in
  the molten state. PA finds its main application
  in the plasticization of poly vinyl chloride
  (PVC) due to its ability to provide flexibility
  and strength to the compound.
• In paints and coatings, alkyd resins produced
  from anhydrides, such as PA and polyols are used
  to fix the curing time of the coating applied.
