• Digital hearing aids break sound into as many as
  48 different bands. Given that every person has a
  unique pattern of hearing loss, the sound quality
  provided by a modern hearing aid is far better
  than the previous analogue technologies that were
  restricted to two bands - base (low frequencies)
  and treble (high frequencies)

Digital Hearing Aids Mechanism

• Hearing aids receive sound through the
  microphone. Distortion and noise are added to the
  sound from the microphone.
• The sound is then sent to the amplifier, where
  the digital device measures the sound and decide
  how much power to add in order for you to hear.
• After being amplified, the sound is sent to the
  receiver ( the speaker ) and is then cleaned up
  again before being sent to your ear. This is also
  where digital instruments look for feedback (
  whistling ) and work to cancel it before the
  feedback happens.
