Anticipatory Set (Focus)
  • The teacher will decorate the classroom with some
    pictures such as different kind of radios (from
    the old style until modern style), pictures of
    airports, police departments, etc. The teacher
    will also bring 4 types of radios that will be
    placed on the students' desk. The students will
    listen to different radio programs (news, sports,
    music, entertainment, weather, traffic). And also
    they will manipulate the radios specially the old
    one.
  • The day before the class, the students were told
    that they have to listen to radio in their moms
    car or houses
  • To start the class the teacher will ask the
    students what kind of radio program did you
    listen to ?

  • The teacher will begin explaining the following
    information to the class
  • Guglielmo Marconi was an Italian inventor and
    electrical engineer who invented the radio. He
    was born on April, 25, 1874 in Bologna, Italy to
    an Irish mother and Italian father.
  • In Italy 1895, he built the first wireless
    telegraph, which sent messages through the air.
    The instrument he used became known as the radio.
  • In December 1901, he used his system to transmit
    the first wireless signal across the Atlantic
    from Cornwall/Ireland to Newfoundland/Canada.
    This was a memorable and important day in our
    history, and also it was the beginning of the age
    of radio.

    information in any form. (data, audio, video).

    devises some new process, appliance, machine
  • Most of inventors posses 3 qualities ingenuity,
    creativity and curiosity. That is why they become
    famous for contributing to the progress of the
    world.
  • Wireless communication is the transfer of
    information between two or more points without
    wires.

    aircraft communication, two-way radio
    communication works to ensure public safety. This
    kind of communication becomes particularly
    important in emergency situations( earthquakes,
    hurricanes, blackouts, fires). If you do not have
    electricity at home, you can use a radio operated
    by batteries.
  • The radio has been informing and entertaining
    since 1901. Today, this medium of communication
    continues to offer diversity in programming

    evening radio programs).
  • 1938 Orson Welles broadcasts his adaptation of
    H.G. Wells's War of the Worlds on October 30,
    creating a nationwide panic as listeners believe
    that aliens have landed in New Jersey.

  • The Teacher will read a brief biography of
    Marconi. Then the students have to answer the
    following questions. Where and when was he born
    ?.What did he invent ? When and where was
    transmitted the first radio signal ?
  • The Teacher will read a timeline of US radio
    history. Then the students have to answer the
    following questions. when was the first radio
    program of voice and music ?, when was the first
    regular licensed radio broadcast ? When Orson
    Wells broadcasts his adaptation of War of the
    Worlds ? In what year President Roosevelt
    addressed the American people in some 30 speeches
    broadcast via radio
  • The students will listen to a weather report,
    traffic report, news from a local radio. Then
    they have to answer the following question. Why
    is it important to listen to the radio ?

  • The students will be given a crossword using
    RADIO.
  • The students will be given a matching exercise.
    They have to match each picture with one event
