2Space does more than lend realism to tracks.
Reverb, like delay, is described by master mixer
Dave Pensado as being a method of three
dimensional mixing. As listeners, we want to
hear music in a space, even an artificial one. It
sounds more like real, live sound. Now, well mix
some space back into the recording, in the exact
amount we desire.
3Panning helps us move signals from side to side
in the stereo picture, whereas reverb moves the
sound forward or backwards. Naturally, you might
start adding reverb directly to the vocal
track. The length and character of the reverb is
up to you. Whatever you choose, include only the
wet signal in your reverb buss, since the dry
portion is in your primary tracks.
4So often, we think of reverb as being the sound
of a space, at the expense of considering the
timbre of the reverb. Before youre getting that
sense of space, the reverb is adding to the
vocals. There are no limits to what you
can do with the reverb but whatever you
do, dont forget about EQ. EQing can help
you get the reverb sound you want.

5Try different quantities of vocals in different
reverbs. There are many possibilities for
creative use of reverb. The basics involve reverb
busses and EQ but dont feel limited by that.
